Pauline’s story actually began hundreds of miles away in Southwestern Kansas where she was born on July 23, 1921 to David and Bertha Baird. Like many other Kansans of her time, Pauline weathered the Dust Bowl, drought, and depression to marry her love, Russell Martin, during the summer of 1940. They made their home in Liberal, KS where Pauline gave birth to their two children, Richard and Marilyn, and laid the foundation for the many generations to come. Pauline loved to go dancing, play cards, and share the warmth of her love, compassion, and generosity with others. Pauline loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, even relocating to Lincoln, NE and later Kansas City, MO to be closer to her daughter and family. Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Russell, her brothers Charles and Virgil Baird, and her sisters; Goldie Hutchens, Irene Stout, Lucille Stowe, Margaret Hill, Grace Hibbs, Georgia Harding and Velma Oliver. Pauline is survived by her son Richard Martin and his wife Debbie; and her daughter, Marilyn and her husband Michael Moon. She was also the loving Grandmother of Tonya (Martin) Bowen, Tracey (Martin) Landon and her husband Curtis Landon, Michelle (Moon) Herrold and her husband Jack Herrold, and James Moon and his wife Andrea.Pauline celebrated and loved spending her days with her many great-grandchildren and their families; Matthew Bowen, Nicole Bowen, Somer Cooley, Lacy Bowen, Chance Walker, Jasmine Soto, Holly Soto, Truman Moon, Alexandra Soto, Andrew Moon, Nicholas Herrold, Mary Moon, Eleanor Herrold, and Claire Herrold. Pauline was also the proud Great-Great-Grandmother of Anthony Bowen, Cash Navarro, and Bo Dixon, as there was no shortage of love in her heart for her little ones. As her story began in Southwestern Kansas, so there it will conclude as she is interred at Liberal Cemetery. Services will be held at Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home in Liberal, KS on August 7, 2010 AT 1:00.
